Weeks 21 and 22

Immediately after last week's update, Nate and I went out to look at a crib and dresser we found on Craigslist and ended up buying them later that day. After seemingly endless struggle of "how to get it home in our Ford Focus and Honda Civic," we borrowed a friends SUV and brought our purchases home. I'm really excited about furniture! It's lighter than what I originally wanted, but for $250 for the pair, I really can't complain. Plus we get to add my old dresser to the room since the stain is almost the same as the crib. Here's what the nursery is shaping up to look like...

I'm searching Lowes and Home Depot's Oops Paint racks to find a light blue, glossy-finished paint. I'll paint the three walls light blue and leave the wall with the crib brown. It'll really lighten up the whole room ... it's just very dark with that brown.

After getting inspiration from one of my favorite HGTV shows, Sarah's House, I'm also hunting for various fonts of wooden letters to do an alphabet around the top of the room. I'll paint the letters in the color scheme of the nursery. Here's the website with the photos. You'll have to scroll through to find the after pictures. They're 2-4 in the gallery.

Didn't get around to updating during the week, so here's the belly picture catch up from last week.

Nate put his artistic hand to work and is really proud of this picture, so I thought I'd include it for your viewing as well.  It'll look better as the belly keeps growing. :)

Now, onto today... Hot off my SD Card here's my outfit from today (yes, I'm wearing a sleeveless top it was still in the 90s today) and baby boy at 22 1/2 weeks!!

I've now given into the fact that people will be rubbing my belly. Random women in the grocery store tell me how much I "glow." And I'm constantly asked "how many more months?," "is it a boy or girl?" "can you feel him kick?" and "are you really pregnant?" by students at my school.

I finally told my own students last week. It seemed that all the other kids around them knew their teacher was pregnant, so I figured it's time to let them in on the secret. So, since I needed a writing sample anyways, I drew a picture of myself holding a blanket on the board and asked them to write a story about "What will Miller do with the blanket?" Several of them told me that I was watching a movie and got cold so I obviously needed to use the blanket to keep warm. One told me that I needed it in the ambulance when I went to the hospital. Another said that I knocked it off while I was jumping on the couch and had to fold it nicely before my husband got home. After allowing them each to read their stories to the class, I read my story to them and said I was going to use the blanket to stop my baby boy from crying. ... silence...head nods... I said, "Is that true? Does Miller have a baby?" They all responded... "YES!" I said, "really? Where's the baby?" They said, "at home." I said, "nope, I don't have a baby at home." Their next guess was "in the car?" Seeing that this was going no where fast, I asked them again "Where's my baby?" and pointed to my stomach. Finally one girl said, "OH! In your belly!" Haha!! They were very excited, jumping up and down, hugging me.... Seriously wished I would have gotten it on video (although for confidentiality reasons, I'm sure parents are happy I didn't) because it was one of the funniest moments of the year thus far!

  1. The furniture looks great! So do you! :) Loved the story of how you told the kids - wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that. And I loved all the ideas they came up with for what you would do with the blanket. :) Love to you all!
